Piccola Cucina
Layers of color, light, and texture that capture the joyful spirit of Italy
Brief
AreaTonic designed a traditional osteria in the heart of Soho, a project that needed to capture the dual experience, allowing diners to feel they are in Soho while being transported to the spirit and essence of an authentic Italian osteria.
Location
New York, NY
Date
September 2025
Area

Concept
The design concept aims to convey the warmth, character, and hospitality of the space, reflecting the chef Phillip Guardione’s personality, known for his love of layered, lively, and richly detailed environments. By combining warm colors, patterns, and statement lighting, including playful Servomuto lamps, this combination creates a unique atmosphere that captures the vibrant and joyful spirit of Italy.
Layout
The layout was carefully reworked to address the challenge of fitting a specific number of seats into the compact Soho space while incorporating an open kitchen and a small pasta-making station. Each area was thoughtfully designed to maintain a sense of openness and comfort, without feeling crowded.
