Torno Subito Miami

Stimulating, unmistakable,

and impossible to overlook

Brief

The starting point for the adaptation of Torno Subito at The Moore was a deep immersion into the original Torno Subito brief. Our studio was tasked with translating the essence of the brand into a new location within a historic building, creating a space that reflects its unique personality while engaging with the distinguished architectural character of the site. The project needed to capture the vibrant energy and joyful spirit of Torno Subito, establishing an identity that feels independent yet coherent with its surroundings, and delivering a fully realized restaurant experience within a challenging one-month timeline.

Concept

Our design approach was guided by Massimo Bottura’s enthusiasm, memories of childhood in Modena, summers in Rimini, the circus, and the power of vibrant color as an emotional language. The terrace, as the main point of attraction and entry, was conceived as an immersive space using bold yellow tones and floral wallpaper inspired by Antonina’s observations of ornamental ceilings in Rome’s historic buildings, framed by black-and-white stripes to create a playful and energetic atmosphere.

Inside, the restaurant needed to establish its own identity while respecting the historic architecture. A graphic element inspired by expressive hand gestures, referencing Bruno Munari’s Speak Italian, was applied to the entrance niche to celebrate gesture as communication. Floral motifs throughout the interior draw inspiration from Ginori 1735 porcelain plates, connecting to a long-standing decorative tradition. The palette of emerald green, wine red, and Rosso Ancona, combined with floral and striped patterns, creates a lively, layered, and sophisticated environment that embodies the spirit of la dolce vita.

Layout

The interior space was adapted from the existing layout to create three distinct atmospheres that balance flow and functionality. Curtains were introduced as a design element that allows spaces to be dynamically separated or integrated while adding a theatrical quality to the experience. Along with varied upholstery colors and strategic adjustments to furniture and textiles, this approach creates a cohesive environment, including a VIP area for private events.
